1960s Sekonda (Poljot) Strela 3017 Chronograph.
Sekonda (Poljot) Strela 3017 Chronograph
Ref 1330
A superb example of the iconic Sekonda (Poljot) Strela 3017 chronograph, presented in stainless steel and offered in unworn condition. Measuring 36mm in diameter excluding the pushers with an 18mm strap width, this classic Soviet-era chronograph retains strong, balanced proportions and excellent wrist presence.
At its heart is the highly regarded Poljot Calibre 3017, a 19-jewel manual-winding column-wheel chronograph movement derived from the Swiss Venus 150 architecture. Known for its smooth and precise chronograph operation, the 3017 is widely regarded as one of the finest mechanical chronograph movements produced in the Soviet Union, combining robust engineering with classic Swiss design influence.
The black dial is in stunning condition, offering excellent contrast and legibility. Its clean and purposeful layout reflects its original function as a precision timing instrument, while the Sekonda branding denotes its export distribution, particularly into the UK market during the Cold War era.
The Strela 3017 holds a celebrated place in horological and space history. Originally issued to Soviet Air Force officers, it became globally recognised after being worn by cosmonauts Pavel Belyayev and Alexei Leonov during the 1965 Voskhod-2 mission, which included the first human spacewalk. Civilian production followed later that year, with Sekonda branding introduced for Western markets.
The model has also been associated with later Soviet space missions, including Soyuz-era flights. Notably, cosmonaut Alexey Alexandrovich Gubarev wore a Strela chronograph during the Soyuz-28 mission to the Salyut-6 space station alongside Vladimir Remek, the first non-Soviet, non-American person in space. Established in 1966, Sekonda began as a British brand offering mechanical watches originally manufactured in Russia, helping bring Soviet horology to Western collectors.
Each of our watches is carefully cleaned and serviced by an experienced watchmaker to ensure reliable performance while preserving its vintage character. For added peace of mind, it is supplied complete with a 12-month mechanical warranty and a new presentation box.
