An early 19th Century French mantle clock by Bachelard Paris. The gilt case of the love goddess Venus with her baby son Amour. The 8-day movement, with unusual internal jewelled pallets, strikes the hours and half hours on a bell. The large white enamel dial having Arabic numerals and gilt hands signed Bachelard Rue Montorgueil. The ormolu case with its stunning gilded panels and the movement both of very high quality.
Bachelard is recorded in Rue Montorgueil (1802) and working in Paris until 1817.
