A rare and unusual Siena marble French four-glass set by Japy Freres comprising of a clock and two candelabra. The being is a mix of Siena marble and gilt ormolu. The clock is surmounted by a bronze Lion. The candelabra is also a mix of marble gilt ormolu and bronze.
Frédéric Japy
The founder of one of the most important manufacturers of clock and watch movements to the French industry as well as clocks and watches retailed under their own name. Frédéric Japy was one of the pioneers in the introduction of machine manufacturing of clock and watch components. The first to manufacture watch ebauches by machine tools in 1776. Started a factory for clock ebauches at Baderel in 1810 and designed its machines.
