19th Century portico French clock.

Dimensions:

W: 23cm (9.1")H: 42cm (16.5")D: 13cm (5.1")

A well proportioned French Portico clock with later paint finish. The gilt dial having Roman numerals and blued steel hands. The original finish gilded dial signed Stevenard Boulogne. The painted case having gilded mounts and stunning gilded grid iron pendulum.  An 8-day duration mechanism striking the 1/2 hours and hours on a bell.

Pierre-Louis Stevenard

Pierre-Louis Stevenard, born 1801, was a fine maker of clocks, automata and moving dolls. Often incorporating the most ingenious mechanisms and often set with clocks. He was considered a master of his craft in France at this time and had an unsurpassed reputation. Between 1833 and 1842 he produced three most important pieces, each incorporating a miniature musician. At the Paris Exposition of 1878, at the age of 77, he showed two automata, The Physician and The Singing Lesson and was awarded a bronze medal
